12vSystems eyes marine market expansion
Yorba Linda, CA
? A natural evolution into marine merchandising is being considered
Yorba Linda-based 12vSystems, manufacturer of specialized small form
factor, Windows XP-based computer systems.
12vSystems has become well known for specialty
computer engineering of audio and video programming currently being
utilized by the automotive on-board entertainment industry.
That same engineering expertise has marine applications
that can provide boaters with the same capabilities
being found aboard 12vSystems? client roster of private cars, limousines,
vans, tour buses and highly-customized automotive concepts.
?Our product line is designed for flexibility
and reliability with a wide variety of power options; the very qualities
that make our products perfect not just for the auto-motive applications
which to date have been the bulk of our business, but for boaters as
well,? said David Hay, 12vSystems president.
?What also makes our products particularly well
suited for marine applications is their overall small size, their modular
construction, the relative ease of installation and the fact that our
?standard? packages can be essentially customized depending upon component
choices,? Hay said.
The size of the computer?s central processing
unit ? slightly smaller than a sheet of notebook paper ? does not limit
installation locations.
?The standard configuration is for 12-volt power
and that, coupled with the small form factor allows installation in
just about any available location; locations sometime too narrow or
cramped for other purposes,? Hay said. ?On any boat, space is always
at a premium and our units take advantage of that; fitting in just about
any location while not being greedy for real estate.
?We can configure cable runs, in-line signal boosters,
provide connections and controls for an infinite variety of uses and
monitors; in fact, the only limiting factor would be a customer?s imagination
and pocketbook,? Hay said.
As to the unit?s capabilities, entire DVD and
CD libraries containing hundreds of movies and thousands of music tracks
can be installed on the CPU?s hard drive ? much in the same way as on
laptops ? along with any of the usual office-type applications and marine-specific
programs.
While a single unit?s capability to run multiple
programs at once is somewhat limited ? only one DVD or music title can
be played at one time, but music can be played over a word processing
document while multi-tasking in a computer-only mode is as easily accomplished
as it would be on any other computer system ? any number of CPUs can be linked together, or daisy-chained,
thus expanding the system?s capabilities.
And, while none of the components are necessarily
?marinized,? Hay said that somewhat dubious
distinction tends to be overrated.
?I think the term, ?marinized,? is often times an overused marketing ploy,? Hay
said. ?Look at all the car radios, cell phones, laptops and other electronics
that live in hostile and salt-air environments, but keep on working
day in and day out.
?We use the finest state-of-the-art, solid-state
components and I can tell you that after years in this business, our
products hold up well in most any kind of environment out there,? Hay
said. ?We stand behind that claim with one of the best warranties in
the business. Under normal uses, we will repair or replace at no charge
any components which fail due to environmental causes.
?Buy one of our systems and if you are dissatisfied
in any way for 30 days, you can return the system for a full and prompt
refund,? Hay said. ?No one in this business gives you a better guarantee
than that for any other electronic system be it ?marinized?
or not.?
