Solar power
Solar power involves the harnessing of energy from the
sun. Both the heat from the sun, or solar thermal energy, and sunlight
may be utilized to accomplish a variety of tasks. Solar thermal collectors,
passive solar lighting, solar furnaces, and solar panels are some of
the ways in which energy from the sun is captured.
Solar thermal collectors most commonly use solar power to heat water.
This may be to provide for household hot water needs as well as for
outdoor swimming pools or solar showers. Water is simply run through
a heat collector and warmed as a result.
Solar ovens are other items which utilize heat from the sun. They are
most often used to simply cook meals.
Many solar power options take sunlight and directly convert it into
electricity. This is through the use of solar panels. The area of study
which concerns itself with this sort of conversion is known as the field
of photovoltaics (PV).
